Meet Penny the terrier mix! Penny was found on the street and then adopted by her wonderful mom and dad a couple weeks ago. Penny's parents decided they wanted to give her a fresh start so they brought her in for a grooming makeover! She looks absolutely great and her parents were thrilled to see her new look. When they picked her up Penny greeted her parents with lots of thank you kisses. Penny has now officially left her past behind her and is a happy and loved dog. We hope to see them back again soon!

Meet Teddy and Curvy! They came in with their awesome mom yesterday to get some brand new soft harnesses. Teddy got green and Curvy got blue. Don't they look so nice? HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROCKY!

Do you remember Rocky and Tiger? We featured them on the blog last month, and Rocky, Tiger, and their mom came in today to do some birthday shopping! Rocky's birthday is this Sunday, so they got super cute matching hoodies, harnesses, and leashes as presents. Here they are sporting their new comfy hoodies. Meet Sampson the Chihuahua mix and his family! The girls insisted we take their photos with Sampson individually :) Sampson and the girls came in and bought a dog guide book as research for their future company, SPOTS. We hope to see Sampson and his family some years from now when they are successful business women (and business dog)! But hopefully they'll visit us again sooner.

We're On MAPHAWK!

Do you know about Maphawk? Maphawk is a cool map/guide for local neighborhood businesses in Venice, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, and Mar Vista. And now you can find Venicepets inside! Mocha and Java were very excited when they found out. Although a neighborhood map seems like something that would be useful only to tourists, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of cool places inside the map that I didn't even know about (and I've lived in Venice pretty much my whole life). Introducing Winnie, the Cavalier King Charles. Winnie comes in for grooming very regularly - so regularly, in fact, that Winnie has her favorite little place in the grooming room! Every time she comes in she greets everyone and then heads to her spot and relaxes. But sometimes her favorite spot is taken by another doggy, and it totally throws Winnie off! Winnie gets confused and feels like her routine has changed and doesn't know what to do or where to go. It's very cute :) We hope to see Winnie back at Marina Dog Grooming soon! And we will try to keep her spot open and waiting for her.

Meet Chicken! Chicken is a Chinese Crested. Did you know that there are actually 2 different kinds of Chinese Crested - Powderpuff(furry) and Hairless(mostly hairless)? Both can be born in the same litter because the gene that determines whether the pup is hairless or not isn't always dominant. Of course Chicken is a Hairless Chinese Crested, and he comes in for grooming. Isn't he so cute? If you've never gotten to pet one you should! Their skin and fur are very soft :) We hope to see Chicken back again soon!

Meet Sunny the Lab! Sunny and her awesome mom stopped by today to pick out a new collar for Sunny. They chose a nice pink striped one that looks great on Sunny! Sunny's mom rescued her from a shelter, so when Sunny got her new collar today, they decided to give the old collar to us so that we could donate it to our local shelter (West L.A Animal Shelter) and help other doggies in need. Did you know that you can give us your or unwanted collars, leashes, bowls, beds, blankets, etc. to donate?

In this picture Sunny was really focused because I was holding her new bully stick to get her to look at the camera. She's so cute! We hope to see Sunny and her mom back again soon!

Since Venice is so close to the beach many times our customers ask us if there's anything to help their dogs keep their paws clean from sand, water, etc. So we got these new little disposable booties! They come in sizes S, M, and L, and each pack includes 8 booties which have elastic drawstrings to help secure them onto your dog's paw. They're also non-skid so you don't have to worry about your doggy slipping around while they're wearing these. New toys have arrived! Yay! We picked some more great toys to add to the shop. First are these latex squeaky pigs! As you can see there are 3 different sizes so your doggy can choose which size suits them best. I like these because they look like they're flying!


For doggies who love ultra-soft and squeaky toys these little fat piggies are great! These come in only one size, small, but they're also washable (we all know how dirty toys can get), which is really convenient. Look how cute they look in a group!

And last but not least we've also restocked on these great puzzle plush dog toys. They're not just soft, cute, and squeaky but they also help your dog increase their intelligence and puzzle solving skills. You simply hide the toys inside and your dog has to figure out a way to get them out! NEW ARRIVAL! ★PORTABLE WATER BOTTLE FOR PETS★

Finally June Gloom is over and we are enjoying some nice hot weather here in Venice, California! If you have a furry friend always remember it's very important they stay hydrated and cool during the hot summer weather. These portable water bottles we just got in stock are a great, convenient way to take water with you wherever you go! They're available in 2 sizes - small(right) and medium (left), and they consist of a durable water bottle, a tray, and even a 60" lanyard which you can use to hang it from your neck or tie to whatever, and there's a nice clip you can use for attaching as well.

As you can see, the design allows you to simply lift the water bottle upwards, snap it in place, and squeeze the bottle to allow the water to flow into the tray, which your pet uses to drink from. Meet Manny, the baby pitbull! Have you ever seen a baby pitbull before? They're soft, and warm and always sleepy! So cute! Manny and his family came over to get some yummy Merrick puppy food. We hope to see him again soon when he is bigger!

TODAY'S CUSTOMER ★MARI-SHIBA INU★

Meet Mari, the Shiba Inu! Shiba Inu is a popular Japanese breed, and there is a great Japanese movie about a Shiba Inu whose name is also Mari(!), where she bravely protects her puppies and family and survives a catastrophic earthquake. She becomes seperated from her family after the earhthquake but manages to survive and find her family again! Every time I see this Mari I always remember the movie.

Venicepets just so happens to be Mari's favorite shop! Everytime before coming to the shop, Mari must walk 20 minutes to get to Venicepets, which is the final destination and of course her prize! Once she gets here her family buys her one of her favorite treats - either a bully stick or a flossy tendon, and Mari is responsible for carrying her treat all the way back which is another 20 minute walk. According to her family Mari carries her treat and never drops it! Just like the movie version, Mari never gives up and has a lot of determination :) We hope to see Mari again next time when she gets her treat!

Meet Corsa! Corsa is a sweet little Jack Russell Terrier. She and her wonderful family came in and got a nice red Puppia Soft Harness. Puppia harnesses are one of the best selling harnesses because they're simple, soft, light, and comfy! Not to mention they have many great colors to choose from. Corsa loves her new harness and she looks great in red. We hope to see Corsa back again soon!

Meet Bud the puppy! Bud's story is very interesting - Bud's new mom saw him being held by a little girl at Venice Beach. He was so cute she asked the little girl if she could hold him. The little girl said yes, and then just ran off never to return again! She decided to keep him and now look how happy they all are! Bud found himself a good, loving family. We think Bud will likely be his permanent name but if it's changed and Bud's family is reading this please let us know! We hope to see Bud again soon - I wonder how much bigger he'll be next time!

Meet Bobby the bichon frise! His wonderful mom rescued him 2 1/2 months ago, and today he got his makeover! It was his first time here with us at Venicepets/Marina Dog Grooming. In addition to being groomed, he also got a nice brand new collar. He's actually wearing it in this picture, but his head blocked it :P Anyway it looks really great on him and I'm sure he feels very handsome! We hope to see Bobby back soon.

Meet Luna the poodle mix! Her super cool parents brought her in for grooming yesterday and for shopping today. Luna is a die-hard fashionista, and needed a nice, lightweight pink collar to contrast her light grey fur. Luna couldn't decide which one to get so she got two collars - one pink cupcake collar and one pink rhinestone collar. Aside from being a fashionable dog, she's also very sweet and affectionate. Here she is in the photo above giving her dad kisses and wearing both new collars at the same time.


Also we don't usually put 2 customer pictures in 1 entry but I had to put this one too because here's Luna doing her model pose! We hope to see Luna and her family back again soon :)

ANESTHESIA-FREE TEETH CLEANING REMINDER

Getting a pet’s teeth cleaned at the vet can be stressful for both pet and owner because pets need to be put under general anesthesia in order for the vet to clean their teeth, and is much more expensive. But not to worry! You can always get anesthesia-free teeth cleaning right here at Venicepets/Marina Dog Grooming! Lolly, our dental hygienist, comes in once a month and performs this service. The pet simply sits in her lap, she talks and praises to reassure them. Most pets love the attention and enjoy seeing her! Your pets will thank you for it. They look and smell so much better after cleaning. Mari's poodles, Mocha and Java, got their teeth cleaned last month. That's Java in the photo :)

Just to let everybody know, our next date for anesthesia-free teeth cleaning is Monday, July 26th. We're almost totally booked for this date so please contact us ASAP to book an appointment! NEW ARRIVAL! ★CAT COLLARS AND BELLS★

New cat collars just arrived in the shop! There are girly styles and boy styles available in 1/2" wide and each ones comes with a little bell. These cat collars have break-away buckles for the safety of your cat (the buckle will break free if the cat pulls on it in order to prevent choking when caught on a tree branch, etc.). Just as with any cat collar, remember never to use a break-away cat collar with a leash as the collar will just snap open.

Sometimes people need to purchase just a little bell for their dog or cat, so we just received these really cute little bells! They come with a split ring so that you can attach it to the ring of the collar. There's many fun kinds to choose from - bunny, puppy, kitty, strawberry, brown monkey and pink monkey. Which one would you get?

NEW ARRIVAL! ★FOOD & TREATS★

We just restocked our favorite food and treats in the shop, so I thought I would write a blog about them!

Merrick canned food is restocked in the shop! Many of our doggy customers love Merrick canned food because it's so tasty and healthy! No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives are used, so you can feel confident that you are feeding your dog only the delicious, healthy meat and veggies inside. We have 6 kinds available: Puppy Plate, Mediterranian Banquet, Smothered Comfort, Grammy's Pot Pie, Turducken, and Wingaling.

We've also restocked on jars of all natural Pet N' Shape dog treats! They are all 100% natural, and healthy! I never feel guilty about giving these treats to my dogs because they are good for them. We have Chik'n Biscuits Jar (chicken jerky wrapped around a tasty biscuit), Chik'n Skewers Jar (chicken jerky on a cowhide skewer), and Chik'n Dumbells (chicken and rice dumbells). We also have many other tasty Pet N' Shape treats in stock in smaller quantities (bags and individual treats).

Primal also has a great selection of treats for your pet. They are made in the U.S.A, USDA organic, grain and gluten free, and made from chicken raised in the U.S.A without antibiotics or added hormones. We have them in 3 varieties - Chicken Nibs (tiny chicken pieces good for both dogs and cats), Chicken Shredders (chicken breast jerky), and Chicken Chips (large chip-shaped chicken pieces).

Bully Sticks are a favorite of many dogs. We have them in dumbell shape, 5" stick, or braided bully stick. They are great for chewing and are digestible, unlike rawhide, and are good for their teeth. Many dogs love to spend hours chewing on these!

And for dogs who want something bigger than the Bully Sticks, there's JUMBO Flossy Tendons! I put a regular Flossy Tendon next to it so you can see the size comparison. We of course, have both regular and jumbo Flossy Tendons in the shop, and they are very popular with our customers.
